The Rivers state government has been charged to go beyond providing agro based components, medical consumables and cash to victims of last year flooding in the state.
An environmentalist and the country Director of Natural Justice, Mike Karikpo gave the advice while speaking with green land reporter after the state deputy governor- led flood committee distributed agro based components, medical consumables and cash to victims of last year’s flood in Orashi region of the state.
Mr Karikpo expressed concern that the unavailability of a flood management agency may hinder the sustainability of the lofty ideas of the state government .
“the government needs to be there consistently, and sustainably, so that if it is health issue, we are dealing with it on a consistent basis, if it agric issue, we are dealing with it on a consistent basis, so its whole lot of activities that you need to consistently followed up with, not just cash support” Mr. Karikpo added.
He urge the state government’ flood committee to ensure that professionals and experts work closely with the beneficiaries to help them mitigate any eventuality.
He also called for the availability of health officers, agric officers who can support the victims and help them navigate through any difficulties that may arise.
